Rehab island swaps addicts for kiwi

For A century Rotoroa Island was operated by the Salvation Army as a substance rehabilitation centre.

It's still being used 2X Powerful Slimming for rehabilitation today, however a very different kind. The area is now a reserve for some of recent Zealand's most endangered animal species.

Somewhat, Kiwi chick Morehu's trip is the end of the long journey, but it is also the oncoming of an even bigger one. She's released on Rotoroa Island after being in the care of Auckland Zoo just for on the month.

"End from the line, but she's still doing alright," says senior keeper Michelle Wybrow. "She's doing very well."

Morehu doesn't realize it, but her little arrival in to the world is really a problem. She's part of the new 25-year plan to give a spot for our national bird to thrive in an island safe haven for young kiwi chicks.

Less than Five percent of kiwi chicks within the wild reach maturity, losing greater than can be saved.

"Kiwi cannot get it done by themselves, they need our help," says Ms Wybrow. "We really should protect our national icon - they're so special."

"It's our national bird," says Barrie Brown, Rotoroa Island Trust chair. "We're called Kiwis, therefore if we don't have them, how could we be called Kiwis?"

More than 90 percent of kiwi chicks are killed by predators each year. Ms Wybrow is among the people attempting to change those statistics - she's been taking care of Morehu along with fellow female brown kiwi chicks Mahaki and Makona right from the first day.
As eggs they're turned and cooled in incubators. Then they're transferred into their makeshift burrows, where the chicks are constantly weighed, fed and kept an eye on.
"You can see simply with their size how they're so vulnerable, so there's absolutely nothing they are able to do against a dog or a stoat," says Ms Wybrow.
The chicks drastically lose weight once they're hatched, so it's about making sure they return up to allow them to be released.
Lucky for Morehu and her friends, that is what happened. Now they're making their method to Rotoroa Island.
For everyone involved, the chance to meet our feathered namesake is an overwhelming experience.
"This may be the top of my bucket list," says kiwi fan Polly Nash. "Everything went wrong with intending to come here and suddenly everything just happened this morning, and it's just, wow. I can't let you know that I felt. It was so moving, so beautiful."
Last month three male kiwi chicks were released. Today, three female and Morehu was one of them. Her 3x Slimming Power name means 'survivor', which is quite fitting because this project is all about the security and boosting the populace of the fragile species, ultimately making certain they do actually survive.

Tipping the Scales Against Obesity

It would appear that the popular television show The Biggest Loser, which provides cash prizes to contestants who lose probably the most weight, has 7 Days Herbal Slim nothing on Corporate America.

With what can perhaps best be classified as a lose-win proposition, big companies, such as General Electric (ticker: GE), Oracle (ORCL), and Halliburton (HAL), are increasingly turning to weight-loss contests to improve health and combat the more than $153 billion annually in productivity alone that a Gallup Well-Being Index in 2011 estimated sheds to absenteeism by employees who pack too many pounds.

Apparently, the contest works, because employees possess some figurative--and literal--skin in the game, says David Roddenberry, co-founder of a contest coordinator, HealthyWage. "Loss-aversion is really a powerful principle," says Roddenberry, who notes that participants (who could start adding some members of the family) are loath to lose the $70 both start working to go in the competition, which generally lasts 12 weeks for short-term versions and nine months for long-term ones. Groups of five, some of them executives, are formed, and the successful entrants are the ones who shed a certain percentage of how much they weigh.

Paige Niccoll, HealthAhead operations leader for General Electric's GE Capital, says 5,000 people participated in its first foray into team-losing in April. "Many people gained in the experience," Nicoll says (pun perhaps unintended), having a total of 23,000 pounds being lost. The company awarded the five members of the very best team $5,000 each. With 60% of GE Capital's employees considered obese on bmi, Nicoll adds, the contest would be a "can't-lose type of deal."

Calorie-tracking apps 'not for everybo

Though fitness apps are soaring in popularity and often earn positive online reviews, recommending a calorie-counting app to overweight people and Cho Yung Tea giving them access to it on their own phones is no guarantee of weight-loss success, based on new research.

"Apps like this could be a powerful tool for those who are ready to track calories, but it is not for everybody to shed weight," said the study's lead author, Dr. B. Yoshi Laing, a primary-care physician and director of the improvement program at the Martin Luther King Jr. Outpatient Center in La.

He and his colleagues wished to know whether introducing the popular MyFitnessPal app to overweight adults at two primary-care centres in La would result in weight loss over six months. The participants all said these were interested in losing weight.

MyFitnessPal is one of the most positively reviewed apps in the Apple and Android app stores, they write in the Annals of Internal Medicine. The free app has more than 50 million users. In addition to allowing users to track calories and workout, the app permits people to set goals, integrate data from other devices and receive feedback from a social network.

From the 212 individuals the study, half were advised about the app; research assistants helped download the application on their own smartphones and checked per week later to assist with technical problems. Another half were told about the study, but they weren't told the name of the app. Instead, they were told to choose their very own activities to shed weight.

Over all, people who used the app were happy with it, but use dropped sharply following the first month, the researchers found.

Additionally, there was no significant difference in weight or blood pressure level between the two groups after six months. More and more people in the app group reported increased utilization of a regular calorie goal, however.

While just introducing the app to people generally did not result in overall weight loss within the group, Laing said there is a subgroup of people who appeared to use it successfully.

In fact, the one who used the app most also lost probably the most weight - about 30 pounds. Ironically, that person was at the comparison group, which wasn't told concerning the app.

"There will be a subset of people that use it and lose more weight," Laing said, adding that he recommends MyFitnessPal to patients who want to slim down and who enjoy smartphone apps.

The suggestion that app use correlates with results is echoed in the company's own data, said Rebecca Silliman, a spokesperson for MyFitnessPal, Inc.

"Eighty-eight percent of people that sign in for 7 days will forfeit weight," she said. "The more you use it, the greater weight you lose."

Merely recommending 2 Day Diet the app may not lead to weight reduction if people are not motivated to trace calories, "because tracking calories is a lot of labor," Laing said.

Slimming down Without Expensive Dietin

As with any task, losing weight has a learning curve. The professionals say it's not about counting points, buying expensive pills or omitting your favorite 7 Days Herbal Slim food. Instead, they say, slimming down is all about changing your mentality and adopting new behaviors.

"We know a lot of people do this yo-yo dieting, they've tried this fad diet also it worked for a while, and lo and behold, they've gained weight back again and even perhaps excess fat than they originally had prior to the diet," said Melissa Lyon, Director from the Erie County Department of Health. "It's really a behavioral change, it is actually about readjusting what you do. After they have lasting behavioral changes, they'll start to see the weight drop off, it does take commitment."

Lyon asserted the busy Mom-on-the-go definitely is able to lose weight in your own home, without buying supplements or perhaps an expensive plan. She also advises moms not to skip meals enroute out the door each morning or evening, in hopes of slimming down.

"Realistically, they can do something as simple as grab an apple and a glass of juice, a glass of milk, a cheese stick, seriously something that possible that's quick, a granola bar, while it's processed - there are a lot of quick healthy and economical options," said Lyon. "When a child sees their mom picking up a carrot stick versus a potato chip, the kid really wants to end up like mom, the kid is looking toward growing up and being like mom."

One mom who is setting an example in early stages says when she was having trouble checking up on her son, she knew something had to change.

"You hate to it this but it's almost like a rock bottom, you hit that time in which you say enough is enough, I could barely keep up with my 6-year-old son who [was] getting almost overweight for me to carry down and up the steps," said Angela Otto, of Erie. "At that point I was obese, I had been 210 pounds and huffing and puffing climbing my group of stairs in my home."

Otto says she began with small changes, gradually introducing her body to healthier foods until they became a a part of her routine.

"When I started out I YouTubed free workout videos, I'd my laptop near me and that's things i did in my family room. Irrrve never stepped foot inside a gym, I've lost 65 pounds without stepping foot right into a gym," said Otto. "You really have to improve your mindset about food, about what it's purpose is. Its purpose is to fuel your body, not to provide you with joy.

"Just badly food and bad behaviors become addicting, so does good food and good results. You have to Zi Xiu Tang Bee Pollen tell yourself I'm destined to be in a position to have these things again, basically do not eat this Snickers bar at the front of me it isn't like they vanish entirely - you will see another opportunity to obtain that."

All this caused me to neglect

"It would be a bad year,'' she admits. "Things were not going right at work. A few of the projects I was Zi Xiu Tang Bee Pollen working on got delayed because of various reasons. I was also having some family problems back in India. All this caused me to neglect eating healthily and I gained a lot weight. A physician I consulted suggested that apart from maintaining a healthy diet I also needed to destress basically needed to slim down.''
Stress isn't good to improve your health and so is obesity. Approximately 20 percent of people here have diabetes (compared to the world average of six percent). Also, her second-fastest growing incidence of heart diseases - both biggest by-products of stress.
Indian women really are a stressed lot - global research firm Nielsen conducted research last year that found Indian women are the most stressed on the planet. Which may be due towards the stress of being an expatriate.
Amazingly, 87 per cent of Indian women admitted feeling stressed more often than not, with 82 per cent also saying they'd insufficient time for you to relax.
The high levels of stress of women is reflected within the obesity levels too. An Indian National Family Health Survey conducted in 1988-89 (the newest available official figures) discovered that 18 per cent of women aged 15-49 in urban India were overweight - that's almost 1 in 5.
It isn't unusual for expatriates to turn to food to deal with stress. Relocating to a brand new country, meeting new people, new social dynamics and a new job can be major stressors.
According to Carole, there are a few peculiar factors responsible for women under stress in the UAE. "Some women might not have been raised to visit out to work let alone hold a managerial post. There might have been an expectation of these likely to school, college, getting married and achieving children however a full-time career is really a relatively new concept for many women in the UAE. However, many of them want to take their role alongside their male counterparts at work.
"These women might want to excel, look great, be professional, 't be too strident within their behaviour and achieve the best balance, Most women aspiring to senior management positions believe the glass ceiling to career progression remains."
Stress in the home, too
But it's not just career ladies who might be at risk of stress-related health problems. Stay-at-home expatriate mothers might be putting on greater than the 'Dubai kilos'.
"Women are often proficient at multitasking and it does not necessarily increase levels of stress,'' says Carole. "But they'll experience stress if they are not in charge of their lives. While everything is running smoothly, then levels of stress will be low but as soon as something goes completely wrong, say for example a child falls sick, the routine will be broken and it is easy to experience stress at this time.''
Also, leading an expat life is difficult: "People require a structure and peer group support in which to work and they need a framework of individuals around these to provide this,'' says Carole. "Expatriates don't necessarily need an increased support system but... a good deal of their support is at home in another country and hence they'll be experiencing a gap within their lives.'' This might contribute to stress.
Carole suggests putting 'me time' into your diary every single day; eating regularly and looking after a healthy diet plan; learning to say 'no' to excessive demands at the office and also at home, and taking a minimum of Twenty minutes of exercise per day.
It may seem just like Zi Xiu Tang Beauty Face Figure a lot but take these pointers aboard and you will find that you are much more in charge of your life - as well as your dress size.

More evidence that diet brands may not

In a new review of randomized controlled trials, people around the Atkins, Zone, and Weight Watchers diets 2 Day Diet Lingzhi all lose a similar amount of weight over the first year and gain some back afterwards.

The accessible studies to date don't definitively conclude whether one branded diet is better than others, said lead author Renee Atallah of the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and woman Davis Institute at Jewish General Hospital of McGill University in Montreal.

Large clinical trials will have to compare all four diets to answer that questions, Atallah told Reuters Health by email.

"These trials need to assess both long-term weight reduction and alterations in other heart disease risks to ensure that we better understand the potential benefits using their use," Atallah said.

These results echo another recent review of 11 popular branded diets. For the reason that study, low-carb and low-fat diets leads to probably the most weight reduction, but all the diets were similarly effective (see Reuters story of September 2, 2014 here: http://reut.rs/1lzyYxl).

Atkins focuses on carbohydrate restriction with unlimited protein and fat consumption. Zone, also low-carb, stands out on the consumption of low-fat proteins and small quantities of good fat.

Dieters combines food and exercise tracking with behavior modification utilizing a personalized points system targeting calorie restriction.

The new review included 10 randomized trials comparing atkins, Dieters or South Beach Diet with a comparison group also attempting to lose weight using conventional methods although not a branded diet, and 2 studies comparing the diets head-to-head, both including Zone.

Only one trial included the South Beach Diet, a modified low-carb, high-protein plan, also it did not result in excess fat loss than the comparison group, but the participants in this study were severely obese coupled with undergone gastric bypass surgery, the authors note.

Dieters on Atkins, Zone and Dieters lost similar modest amounts of weight within the first 12 months. In head-to-head trials, those on atkins lost a typical 4.6 to 10.3 pounds, Weight Watchers participants lost an average 6.6 pounds, Zone dieters lost a typical 3.5 to 7 pounds, and people within the comparison groups using non-branded methods lost about 4.9 pounds.

In the long term, most dieters had gained some of the weight back, but Weight Watchers dieters were more likely to maintain excess fat loss compared to comparison group.

For other health indicators, like cholesterol, blood pressure level, blood sugar levels, or other cardiovascular risks, there wasn't any difference between Atkins, Dieters and Zone, the researchers reported in Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes.

"Our results claim that popular diets by themselves might not be the reply to lose weight," Atallah said. "People should seek guidance using their physician along with other health care professionals to build up a broader lifestyle intervention, which may be more efficient."

The 4 diets in the review have a lot of elements in keeping and do start adding some tried-and-true approaches for weight reduction, based on Lindsay Malone, a registered dietitian at the Cleveland Clinic who had been not part of the new review.

All of the diet plans involve some kind of dietary tracking, which is an essential component of weight loss success . plans, she said.

"They just about all promote non-starchy vegetables, low-calorie high-volume foods," Malone told Reuters Health by phone. "Most be put off by fast foods."

Dieters might have been associated with more lasting weight reduction since it builds in allowances for going "off-plan," round the holidays or for special events, she said. Anyone trying to lose weight can attempt to permit some flexibility like this, which might help achieve sustainable results, she said.

"All of those diets eliminate the junk calories," that is important, she said.

Dieters don't necessarily Lida Daidaihua Original have to forego these diets, "but they ought to remember that on their own they are certainly not sufficient to achieve sustained weight loss," Atallah said.- Reuters

Can you eat insects to shed weight? T

The bowl was set on the table before me near the bottle of beer having a metallic clink.
My mind did not even bother to process what it really was that had Jimpness Beauty Fat Loss Capsule been presented to you me; I was searching over the Gulf of Thailand, talking, drinking and having fun.
Besides, who'd set anything other than peanuts in front of someone at a bar?
My hand adopts the bowl to get one small resist send it hurtling into my mouth with the unerring aim of a man who has spent much of his life throwing food down his gullet.
Because it hits my tongue, something seems off.
The peanut seems too soft somehow, and has a strange metallic flavour into it. I wash it down having a swig of beer and pick up the bowl. Crickets--
It was my introduction to the skill of eating insects, or entomophagy.
In some regions of Thailand, insects are an extremely popular snack, and are sold from street carts and in restaurants.
To become honest, there are few snacks you can eat in a bar that are better tasting and more healthy than crispy crickets dusted with salt and chilli pepper or giant locusts; you just need to remember to take away the legs and head.

Since that first introduction, I have continued to consume insects at least occasionally, and found that they're a proper, tasty, and high-protein addition to my diet.
With only 121 calories per 100 grams of crickets (vs 567 calories for any comparable treats, peanuts), it's obvious to see the way they make the perfect accessory for the diet for men waging a personal war against fat.
Also, unlike peanuts or crisps (for all my British MAN v FAT friends), it's nearly impossible to eat crickets non-stop.

Recently, I had been introduced to an excellent Thai delicacy from Northern Thailand that is essentially young wasps and termites with a few giant ants, cooked with lemongrass and chilli peppers and served over rice, you can see that particular dish below.
And also being delicious, it had been far and away healthier compared to alternative stir-fried chicken or beef.
Available seasonally, this delicacy is something I'd happily eat every day of the year.
Many of us originating from Western cultures happen to be raised on steady diets of 'meat and potatoes', and also have learned that they are healthy, balanced diets.
While there is nothing intrinsically wrong using these things, other cultures all over the world live with radically different diets and lifestyles that people can learn from.
While eating insects is viewed by us as a strange move to make, they are, gram for gram, the best protein available.

Companies for example Bitty Foodsin San Francisco happen to be pioneering a baked-goods industry by which cricket flour is substituted for grain flour, making cookies which are protein rich, sustainable, gluten-free and far better for you than their alternative.
In the last century, the meals choices obtainable in the Civilized world have exploded in a decidedly negative way.
We have the ability to transform our diets from the steady stream of junk food, to which so many are accustomed, for an entirely different and decidedly broader global culinary adventure.
It's up to us to create Super Slim Pomegranate decisions concerning the way forward for our waistlines and our planet, and also the best option might be a a bit more creepy-crawly than we initially suspected.

'BelPhen' Passes Early Safety Test

Patients lost more weight combining lorcaserin (Belviq) with phentermine than taking lorcaserin alone, but there have been some potentially Instant Slim Tengda Diet Pills adverse variations in cardiac parameters, researchers reported here.

In a phase II study, patients lost a greater proportion of their bodyweight over 12 weeks when adding twice-daily phentermine for their lorcaserin prescription, compared with lorcaserin alone (8.7% versus 3.8%), according to Steven Smith, MD, of Florida Hospital in Orlando, and colleagues.

Although rates from the primary outcome of serotonergic-related adverse events were similar across groups, changes in blood pressure and pulse rate weren't as favorable for those who added phentermine to their regimens.

The findings were presented because the only "late-late-breaking abstract" during a poster session at the Obesity Week meeting here.

Smith told MedPage Today the lorcaserin half of the combination may have mitigated some of the cardiac effects of phentermine.

"We were amazed," he said. "We realize that both of these pathways we're touching in terms of control centers within the brain are related to and associated with one another. A number of them operate in a seesaw fashion -- you will find circuits that suppress, and circuits that activate. Here, the thing is reciprocal relationships instead of additivity."

Experts have long been asking whether combining lorcaserin with phentermine may be the next big diet drug craze, since the combination could be similar to the weight-loss blockbuster Fen-Phen, which was pulled from the market for adverse cardiovascular events.

The problems were chalked up to the fenfluramine (or dexfenfluramine) component, which targeted serotonin 5-HT2B receptors that are said to be expressed in heart muscle, among other tissues. Lorcaserin instead targets 5-HT2C receptors, which the company says are not expressed within the heart, negating concerns about cardiovascular risk.

The 238 overweight and obese patients in the 12-week study were randomized to one of three groups: lorcaserin alone (10 mg twice a day) or lorcaserin plus phentermine (15 mg), either a couple of times daily.

All patients received standardized weight-loss counseling during the trial.

The primary endpoint was the proportion of patients reporting a minumum of one of nine common potential serotonergic adverse events: headache, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, xerostomia, diarrhea, vomiting, insomnia, or anxiety.

Smith said the cardiac effects were not entirely unanticipated, but "when you appear at the magnitude, it seems to become less than we typically see with phentermine alone. We know there are positive blood pressure effects with lorcaserin. This really is one of those areas where you put these two together and you may tight on blood pressure and heart rate difficulties with phentermine than we'd have normally expected."

Adam Tsai, MD, of Kaiser Permanente Colorado in Denver, and chair of The Obesity Society's public affairs committee, said the issue will be if the weight-loss benefits of the combination will outweigh the increases in these cardiovascular risk markers.

"The differences in blood pressure level changes were small compared to the heart beat changes, and there happen to be plenty of studies that would say an increase in heart rate carries an increased chance of cardiovascular events," Tsai said.

But he explained he was not worried about the risk of valvulopathy since the drug works via a different mechanism than Fen-Phen.

The most common Green Lean Body Capsule
adverse events overall were xerostomia, headache, constipation, fatigue, and dizziness.

Eating and running: what works best?

One of the most-discussed issues by runners is what they eat. More specifically, the things they eat before going for a run, and just how long before the run they eat it.

I'd a friend who, before Slim Forte Double Power any one of our long training runs, would eat two slices of white bread slathered in jam. I know this, because she would be eating them once we trigger. That was all very well, until the morning her body informed her that blueberry jam was not OK and she or he had an anaphylactic fit and almost died. I think she's moved on to honey sandwiches these days.

Therefore the consequences of having your pre-run food wrong could be, well, if not almost lethal, then at least extremely uncomfortable. It's not like there are portaloos set at convenient intervals round the streets for runners to pop into when trouble strikes. I had been once turned away with a service station at 5.55am simply because they didn't open until 6am. Perhaps the attendant inside mistook my dance of desperation outside the glass doors like a show of intent to rob the area? The reality is running was memorable, too.

Professor Louise Burke is head of sports nutrition in the Australian Institute of Sport and an author of several books including Complete Help guide to Food for Sports Performance.

She says that which you decide to eat pre- or post-run can make a difference to how comfortable your run is, how fast it's, how good you get over it and just how many pounds you lose.

"It will depend on which your nutritional goals are," Burke says. "You might want food that's good for stomach comfort, or for performance if you are doing a race at lunchtime versus a training run at lunchtime. You might like to use your eating to adapt for a forthcoming race. Or you will be exercising to lose weight. There's no one-size-fits-all."

Spread your intake
Regardless of what outcome you are searching for, Burke states that within the long-term, the easiest method to manage the body composition and exercise recovery is as simple as spreading protein and intake evenly within the day.

It's the approach that Olympic hurdling champion Sally Pearson takes. "If I've got a few hours or evening session ahead I eat a lighter lunch such as a small stir fry or a meaty salad. I attempt to consume about 2.5 hours before I train so that I don't feel like I will see my food twice," she told me.

Burke advises to try to have about 20 grams of high quality protein inside a sitting. "Most Western eaters convey more protein compared to what they need in a day, only hardly any each morning and lunchtime and half a cow at night. A great protein intake each morning is a good method of achieving body composition changes."

Protein sources include dairy products, eggs, fish and meat. Breakfast might therefore include a poached egg on toast. Lunch could be a sandwich with a thick meat or chicken filling, or with a milk drink or yoghurt. If you wish to eat fewer carbohydrates you may make it a salad or fruit and yoghurt.

"Sometimes it's good to possess a snack to give you an energy boost for the after-work work out," says Burke. "That way you're refreshed and can train well rather than feel haggard and also have an unpleasant experience that discourages you from attempting to keep exercising in the future."

There's always the Slim Xtreme need to manage stomach comfort. You just have to test out what pre-run food your body tolerates best so when. The upshot of it is that knowing what works, you'll be far less likely to need to make unscheduled pit-stops at service stations.
